Alice romanticizes Peter the way she does Grimes. Yes Peter in reality is probably smart and airheaded, but the way she describes him makes him seem like not of this world amazing and thats just how she views him yk? Just like how she views Grimes as morally permissible because of how smart he is, she views Peter’s forgetfulness and inattentiveness as him being out of reach and in a whole world she cant get to

Theres bits about alice’s past that keep being implied that im not sure I understand exactly what they are saying… so we will see about that. I kinda am obsessed how similar she is to me though and how its clearly academia centered while also having this enemies to lovers side plot THAT IS progressed through life threatening scenarios. Like this book has it all

=> Its interesting for me as a history student to see characters translate and compare old texts and interpret them because thats what im doing right now. Also throwing in a little romance is fun.

Ok im a fan so far, I had a friend who read Babel say they didn’t like Kuang’s work because they said it “talks down to you” but I would counter that by saying I like how she explains words, concepts, and ancient stories so that anyone could pick up this book and understand it. =>

They r corny af but they r cute, however nothing beats the first book in my opinion, I liked mateos and rufus dynamic better. The whole heart thing is cute but like orion’s swearing is so extremely corny LMAOOO like we gett ittt your a newyorker
