It is strange to me that this book is both historical and apocalyptic. It is always jarring to see the antiquated practices and beliefs--and blatant injustices--because most zombie narratives are set in the future. This unique contrast has really pulled me into Dread Nation!

I am excited to get back into WSS! Our reading today shows Omar and his friends have great aspirations despite the negativity of others in the refugee camp. I look forward to seeing if Jeri, Omar, and Nimo are able to reach their goals.

They Called Us Enemy has helped me understand a part of history that I am not very familiar with. I love how the images capture the contrast between how George experienced the camps and how the adults experienced it. I am interested in seeing how these experiences shape George's adult life and his accomplishments.

Blade asks some difficult questions. He wonders if he’s the reason his friends died, explores ideas of heaven/hell & contemplates the existence of God. These heavy questions are contrasted by the humor and lightheartedness of Blade when reflecting on his time with his friends before the crash. One page describes the Sauce Crew goofing around, the next page describes the difficulty of Blade attending their funeral
