I have such mixed feelings about this book

I have such mixed feelings about this book. The religious elements, the racism. It’s a little too heavy handed, and as a black reader it feels like watching a white woman in the early 1800s realize slavery is wrong. Obvious and tool little too late.

Why are you, as a mage (a HIGH mage) bullying people? Make it make sense. But also this is why it’s giving YA

I love the mechanics behind the magic system. The way mages encode spells like scripts on a computer or typewriter, with multiple layers to perform different functions.

This has been on my tbr for ages and I’m very excited to finally be reading it. I will say, though the story itself is very intriguing and I’m enjoying it, it kinda feels more YA than I thought it would? Just an observation
