I get that you have to start with a flawed character for them to develop over the course of a story, and I get that this character is a teen, but the protagonist is so painfully stupid that its just not believable for him to have survived 16 years

Dnf after chapter 1
The author can't seem to remember if Harold Lowe's mother was called Harriet or Hannah. It would change within the same paragraph. Can't help but wonder if the rest of the book is this poorly edited, and if so, how can I trust it?
