I’m curious: what’s the protocol for authors leaving reviews of other authors’ books?

I’m told there are two camps:

1. “You do you, boo.”
2. “Don't hate. Selling books is hard enough without other authors publicly critiquing books they didn’t like. Plus, a negative review can look like jealousy.”

So do most authors end up as cheerleaders for the books they like or adore—and otherwise stay quiet?
