FINALLY.

I finally understood the "why" of polish politics around 1918! guess what my understanding so far lacked (yes, it's polish antisemitism and how it fuelled Endecja, which we don't learn about in schools yikes) (now it finally all makes sense)

I've only just begun but I already love this guy's thoughts on polish history and especially how it is taught in our schools. I've been waiting my whole life for this book ok.

if someone in Poland will ever again tell me that we don't need feminism anymore I will point them to this book bc srsly maybe we have rights on paper (and still not all of them), but the Polish mentality towards women is srsly UNCHANGED since 1920
(especially the influence of Catholic Church. I could write ESSAYS)

Na razie czytam to z zapartym tchem. Przerażające też, że w fundamentach polskiej polityki nie zmieniło się nic od tych stu lat, smród martyrologii i romantyzmu dalej się ciągnie za naszym narodem.

*spoilers ahead* I'm just reading the part where Frank's supporters are taking revenge on Jews by accusing them publicly of using blood of Christian children and at the same time I hear in the news that our ministry of health accused some politician and doctor of experimenting on fetuses bc he dared to criticize the ministry and I'm sat here like rly

I'm starting it over, this time I will finish it no matter what.

I'm reading this book for the second time and still can't believe I found here the best executed mutual-pining trope in Polish literature and who knows if not worldwide. just *chef's kiss*

this book is so good I would finish it today if not for the fact that it's scaring me too much and there's no way I'm reading it when it's dark lmao

It's amazing and frightening at the same time that the principles of human nature hasn't changed since 400 bc. There was no capitalism then, yet Plato writes about issues and problems of today's capitalism and society, like what does it mean to be a "just" person and why it's more beneficent to be "unjust" one. This is fascinating.

Must go, must sleep, must wake, must get up---sober, merciful word which we pretend to revile, which we press tight to our hearts, without which we should be undone." My fav quote from this book and I didn't remember it is said by the most annoying character???

"And since beauty must be broken daily to remain beautiful, and he is static, his life stagnates in a china sea." not often a book punches you in a face with perfect wording like that. queen.

From the very beginning of this book I had this weird feeling that sth is strange with it but I rly couldn't say what and then at page 175 sth happened (don't want to spoil tho) and I realised: it reads like a novel I wrote when I was 16. THE SAME TROPES. THE QUEST. And I don't mean it to say I'm some literary genius, but that just this book is so naive and cliche. Do I enjoy it? Yes. Did I expect sth more? Also yes.

IM LOVING THIS SO MUCH like sure it has multiple tropes we've all seen before but damn Sanderson always makes them EVEN BETTER also i can't wait to see if my guesses of what is actually going on will turn out true!!! nice limited first person job damn

Ive only just started and I'm already almost crying bc there are photos at the end of this book and how people could live in those ruins?????? It looks apolyptical yet the plot is so normal????? Like just teens in high school with their teen problems, only they live in ruined foreign city and the year is 1948. Like. Most of books they have in school library is still german???? This is so eerie.
