रघुवर प्रसाद के आते ही पत्नी ने गुड़िया को फुसफुसाकर जाने को कहा होगा। वह भागती हुई चली गई। दिन के विदा होने का बाहर से कुछ अधिक अन्धेरा कमरे में हो चुका था। रघुवर प्रसाद ने सोचा अभी बत्ती न जलाएँ। एक मिनिट बाद जलाएँ। वे पत्नी की ओर बढ़े। पिताजी दिख नहीं रहे थे। पड़ोस के बच्चे बाहर खेल रहे थे। पत्नी के पास जाकर वे धीरे से बोले "चाय पी थी?" पत्नी ने कुछ कहा नहीं। "चाय पी थी?" उन्होंने फिर पूछा।
