Helen is starting A Pattern for Life: The Rule of St Albert and the Carmelite Laity (Carmel in the World)
I’ve only just started this as we are reading it as ongoing formation in my Carmelite group. It’s fascinating so far.

Helen is starting Demon of Unrest A Story of Misery and Despair
This probably deserves a higher rating, but it’s a stretch for me to even give it 3 stars. It’s dark and demented. If you enjoyed the movie “Deliverance,” this story is for you.

I’m about 1/2 way through this, and not sure if it’s worth finishing. The characters are completely unlikable. What a shame that it isn’t more about forensic linguistics, which is why I picked it up. Is it just me, or do more people wish that books would come with the rating labels of X, R, or G?

Did not finish. I guess I just don’t like cozy mysteries. 😖

Helen is starting David Copperfield
While I’ve read this book several times before, I’ve never ‘read it’ as an audiobook. I can’t recommend the narrator Tadhg Hynes on LibriVox highly enough. David Copperhead is among my top 5 favorite books and Mr. Hynes is the perfect narrator for it.

Helen is starting When We Were Vikings
So much for judging a book by its cover! I’m only an hour into the audiobook and have decided this book isn’t for me. Yuck. I’m returning it to Libby, the library app. ☹️

Great book for our book group. Slow growing as we only meet once/ month. It’s very dense, so only 10 pages at a time.

Oh my gosh, I just read that Hal Holbrook died a few days ago, on Jan. 23, 2021. My son and I were just talking about his portrayal of Mark Twain and how incredible he was. We wondered if he was still living...I guess not. 😢

Helen is starting Spilled Blood: Inspector Drake Mysteries Box Set Book 1-3
I was reading other reviewers and their dislike of Drake and all his fussy OCD peculiarities. I find that I’m more irritated by the author’s insistence on telling us all about his fussy behaviors. Let the poor man be! We get it, already! 😉

It must be providence that I downloaded this from the library's 'available now' list. A few minutes in, and I remarked how much these crimes reminded me of the 1984 hammer murders in the Denver area. We lived there then and my husband worked in the Aurora crime lab. He helped process the scene of the Aurora family's murder. Checking on the net, I found that DNA has just recently solved that case. Amazing!

It reminds me of A Spoon River Anthology, and now I want to read that again after 50+ years!
