tried to read a book i’ve been anticipating for a while to put myself off finishing this too quickly and had to put it back down again so I could read more of this. even bearing in mind this is my third reread. susanna clarke i love you

today was the first properly cold day of autumn so strapping myself in for reread #3 of the most autumnal book i can think of. also i just need some more susanna clarke after piranesi reread #3

third time reading this because i honestly genuinely craved reading it again. i think this book is a masterpiece

i last read this eleven years ago, in spring of 2013, and decided that I hated jane austen’s writing, it was boring and opaque and overly flowery and the characters were indistinguishable from one another. coming to realise that i’m genuinely enjoying reading it second time around was a shock and also proof that my brain hadn’t fully developed if i thought this was a really difficult read

just read my past activity on this book and laughed because i am the same a whole seven years later. seven years ago i said i would read a trilogy about eliot brushing his teeth and you know what i stand by it 100 percent

enjoying this reread so intensely that I’ve now started rewatching the show alongside it. i will stop before the final season this time though because i don’t hate myself

read 200 pages of this this morning at a very fast clip and am feeling a bit dazed at how completely my whole being was absorbed into it. total absence of awareness of anything outside it for 2 full hours

enjoying this almost just as much as I did seven years ago!

i hope this is as perfect a book as i remember it being when i first read it seven years ago! so far so good

I have heard SO MANY THINGS about the twist ending of this book and picked it up since it’s based on that archetypal kind of pastoral fantasy I admittedly love (like the dark is rising which I reread earlier in the year!). it’s slow so far but I am feeling it start to careen off that predictable course in a very fun way

beware, everyone: this book has refilled my stock of “fun facts”

returning to pratchett after years away is always so comforting, and it’s so interesting how much more interesting I find the city watch at 30 than I did at 20 or even 25

well this just made me weep in public, so i think i’m going to pause for a minute

i am enjoying this so much! i know i have other things to do but i am itching to pick this back up

apparently the last time I read this was in 2013 which is appalling! got emotional seeing the message in the front - my uncle gave me this when I was 7 in 2000 and, truly, no exaggeration, it changed the trajectory of my life

who would’ve thought that DRACULA would be part of the zeitgeist in 2022? not me but I’m loving it

not one of my wiser decisions to read this on my lunch breaks. spending the hour after lunch damp eyed and emotionally fragile

i’m rereading this and honestly? i want to be reading this book over and over forever i love it so much. there’s something about it that feels like it’s something key to me as a person. yes this all sounds ridiculous but it is in my opinion a perfect piece of perfect art, thank you susanna clarke for seeing into my soul, please write more
