i do love intertextuality that overarch between the different short stories. knowing that this is only a collection makes it even more fun to assume that the author kept all his little depraved, fucked up stories in his mind, feet-kicking about the thought of readers noticing.

I just finished the first short story "Rest Stop" - and anything the story threw at me was just agonizing and disgusting. I am arachnophobic, so Abe's encounter with the tarantula really went under my skin. I felt bugs crawling all over me.
In retroperspective, I could have anticipated the ending (Though I do wanted it to have a different outcome).

the first 15 pages about really connected to me


about how the daughter's entire genetics have refused to take over the mother's features – yet the nose "insisted" to be taken over. it's beautiful and showcases how we find our parents, even in smallest ways, back in our faces, bodyparts, our nature.

It feels as if I am experiencing her inner monologue and ideas about society first and the actual plot of the story second.
