Preface: a frustrating start to this book as I was excited to read it. The author bemoans the seriousness of the Trump regime’s bull-in-a-china-shop behaviour but seems to conclude that all was going swimmingly until orange man got in. The idea that the US has only RECENTLY cozied up to autocracies and dictatorships is laughable and I’m surprised that this seems to be the conclusion of the new preface (Apr, 2025)

PACING IS FIRE. but there’s a strong suggestion here that a woman turning down an advance from her male superior is a dick move. Fuck off

The slow burn reminds me of tv shows where you’re kept in the dark for a while before a pretty big reveal near the end. But the characters here just aren’t interesting enough to keep the story gripping. There’s so many, too
