I’d forgotten how much I love Dumas’ writing - I’m barely into the story, but I’m already more emotionally invested (in Dantès, in Renée and de Villefort…) than I’ve been in anything I’ve read recently. I’m for sure gonna cry 3

they just keep going, man. it never ends.

So far, I love his writing style - it feels just as rambling as Sal’s journey West - and his characters. Not too thrilled about the treatment of women, though - none of them are given fully fledged characters (so far) and don’t have any voice in the narrative.

It’s absolutely brilliant so far - given me a lot of things to think about (though he is a lot more morbid than I expected).
