The screenwriter just apologized for being a pompous ahole, so that’s refreshing

The MC just said writers are happy to find out what people really think about their work but only if it’s positive and that is patently untrue. If we’ve written something that isn’t working, most of us want to know. She goes on to talk about the best way of giving constructive criticism to her writing students so she obviously means famous screenwriters not all writers, but it’s annoying

Too much telling— I would like to actually see the developing friendships between the striking students instead of being told they all got close.

Really really dislike how Robin has embraced indiscriminate violence and is taking no responsibility for the consequences of his actions. He blames the government for refusing to capitulate. Violence is not the only option. He’s wrong about that and his lack of concern for the people who will die because of his actions is appalling.

I do enjoy the footnotes, but some of them are heavy handed
I like a good textbook, but that’s not what makes a good novel

WHY does everything go to hell every time things start to look hopeful?

The audiobook is brilliantly narrated.

I was really hoping Mr. Collins would get a redemptive arc but he’s just cringingly sycophantic and I can’t see how Charlotte will get a happy ending. It’s beautifully introspective but melancholy.

I’m loving the descriptive language and the realistic new mother experiences

I’ve seen the movie so I know the plot. I am enjoying all the science, although there is an immediate inaccuracy – while it is true humans have used nightsoil as fertilizer for a very long time, it has to be processed properly (heated to very high temperatures and preferably composted for 6 to 12 months) to destroy E. coli. Which it doesn’t sound like he is doing.

Stupid fucking wolf-bird—Ilya’s reaction to hearing a loon call. lol

Recycles some good points. Overuses the f. Feels dismissive of actual mental health issues. And the “oh, I never got to touch Jennifer Aniston’s breasts” humor is creepy.

I was hoping Mary would reunite with th sweet optometrist but I’m happy she’s got a Henry Tilney type love interest. I hate how his fkboi friend has inserted himself into their dream vacation and is insisting they stay on a mountain for a rainstorm which is so incredibly stupid

Glad I didn’t dnf during the slow depressing parts, the section with the Gardner’s is really enjoyable—I loved Mary’s exposure to poetry. And Mr Hayward is pleasantly like Mr Tilney

I really dislike how clueless and self absorbed Jane and Lizzy are in this book and Charlotte is uncharacteristically passive aggressively mean

I hate all the subterfuge and subtle dishonesty in this book— Mary is socially awkward and has isolated herself, so she doesn’t have honest conversations with the people her behavior is impacting out of fear.

The beginning was great and it’s well written. But the pacing lags and I don’t entirely agree with her take on the characters. Mrs. Bennett is truly horrible, and seems to actively dislike Mary
