Kinda specific gripe but the characters say each other's names in every line of dialogue and it's getting to me

The intersection of many narrative perspectives recounting a limited period of time is soooo good. Very Reservoir Dogs. But like... 1866 New Zealand and written like a 19th century classic...

I am so intimidated by the size of this book, sometimes more is not more 🙈

Oh this book is flipping marvelous

I am so hooked on this, it sizzles with the undercurrent of any good tragedy: the promise of a devastating pay off

And if it doesn't pay off I'm gonna SCREAM

Turns out H.G Parry has the same fixation on Jacques-Louis David's "The Death of Marat" as I do
