enjoying this so far! kinda confused on the sudden change with jace - im guessing it has to do with the nightmares but i didn’t even realise he was ignoring her until they outright said so. i think it’s a struggle to keep their plot line interesting. love that kyle is actually jordan (maias ex bf) and isabelle and maia have just found out about two timing! ready for the main plot to become more focused though

i’m having to remind myself of some plot points from the original trilogy as well as seperate mortal instruments and infernal devices in my head. BUT i’m really keen to get back into this world. there’s already a bit of connectedness between the series with camille introduced as a character which is exciting! the dialogue is great too.

took a little break from reading bc my kindle broke rip. the narrator of this book is literally disgusting and i’m not really enjoying it. i’ve just gotten to the main plot so might as well see it through. very short read

this is absolutely brutal. firstly, i am quite sad that captain beck died - i really enjoyed the storyline between him and vianne and their unlikely bond. these past 20 pages have been so sad. everyone is being abused and tortured and their poor dad!! i’ve grown to really like this book as the events have unfolded and characters have formed. its commentary on relationships, resistance and feminism is really moving

i know i said she doesn’t write romance well but why Captain Beck and Vianne kinda…. 🤪🤪
on a more serious note the book is getting more tense and quite sad

still not 100% convinced on this one! i think it’s interesting for sure but just not hooked or enamoured. i don’t like the way Hannah writes about romantic love; it doesn’t seem very genuine to me. both main characters are flawed in their own ways, but the same flaw is repeated over and over leading to both Vianne and Isabelle to be pretty one-dimensional to me rather than “human.”

this didn’t capture my attention immediately but now that the Nazis have successfully invaded France i am slowly getting into it!! i found Gaeten and Isabelle’s journey to be rushed and confusing - very reliant on the reader doing research on towns and events, plus their relationship seemed odd to me? but other than that the plot is interesting enough and pacing is good. feeling average so far though.

I really enjoyed the ending of this one. Can’t believe Kelsier actually dies but it made a lot of sense that he had his own secret plan to make himself the new god and I think that was really well thought out/written. Marsh is alive?! Yay! Crazy that lord ruler was Rashek (kinda wish I read the logbook more closely) and eh about Elend becoming king. Minus points for leaving a lot unanswered and some confusing parts

Part 4: If Kelsier died then that is the most anti-climatic death ever. Maybe the 11th metal is resurrection or something?
I’m growing to really enjoy Elend’s character even if he’s really stupid. I still think there could have been more interactions with the other crew members but this book has been great so far. It’s really flown past at almost 600 pages currently!

Part 3: It is so silly how Yeden led the army for a practice run. the way that was uncovered confused me slightly in relation to Ham and the different garrisons, but overall the writing is really good. the pacing is perfect and the plot has been unfolding really well. curious to see how kelsier reworks the plan - i’m hoping recruiting elend.

Part 2: definitely more quick paced then the first part! a good foundation made this super easy to read and i flew through it. i love the addition of elend, and i like the plot line of vin going undercover. something in my gut tells me sazed is evil (suspicious that he found vin) but hoping im wrong because i love his character! wanting to see more of each crew member.

After Part 1: mostly build up here. i’m enjoying this one so far! the world and magic system is really unique and even though it’s complicated, i think sanderson does a good job at gradually explaining it to make it clear. the pacing is also good for such a large book - the plot line is super distinct and nothing feels dragged out. excited for the action to start!

i also think that the actual plot of the book that they were fake dating got really lost at some point and was a bit of a wasted potential. i think it would’ve been a lot more interesting if they went to the wedding together instead of the complication relying on petra and peter breaking up. would’ve shown a lot more character imo

i’m actually so pissed at miles. he did the one thing the entire book she was saying she was scared of and then tried to make it up to her in a surprise which she hates AND THEN said i love you in an attempt to get her back? not a fan. i’m not sure how im gonna get back on track with this relationship. also the whole dad trope was kinda random?

their chemistry is faltering a little bit; i was so surprised when something happened between them really shortly after my first update (around 30%). the characters are great, but obviously their background stories are a bit cliche and kinda unnecessary to explain them not being together: would’ve been easier to say they are confused with the fake dating thing. i also hate julia so much… she’s so entitled!!

really really enjoying this so far! love miles as a character and their chemistry is so good already. story is obviously quite cliche but has a lot of really entertaining micro tropes! love it

wow this was so sad and so good. haven’t cried at a book in a really long time but a year escaped me at the end there! i loved the writing and arc of this book so so much. i feel like i want to read it all again.

still enjoying this one! finally at the beach so i can properly read. hate yash for leaving jordan (nickname) with no explanation and i still don’t really get why. the tense and timeline change kinda threw me off at first but it’s done well even though it’s not as easy to read! not really a love triangle like i thought but more of a love story between jordan and yash.

this is so good so far! love the writing style - kinda reminds me of a mix of sally rooney and dolly alderton. also gives normal people vibe but a love triangle! although there’s a VERY clear favourite at the moment. super easy read, love it

ugh finally her realisation for wes! not gonna lie the complication in this book was kinda brutal. she literally lost her friend, her family and then wes was rude asf about her mum but!! she was also being a total bitch as well.
anyway kinda aggravating but excited for the resolution! i’ve really enjoyed this so far

this is really good, exactly what i needed! there’s not much to say except i love wes and sometimes liz pisses me off but only cuz she’s so clueless. i heard this is getting made into a tv series and i can already see it would be so good

okay this has hooked me officially, i needed something light to get me back into it because of exams and this is good.

omgggg YES this is what i’m talking about. i love the “we are going to die tomorrow” micro-trope. but i bet jem isn’t dead, otherwise that would be a shame because i feel like it would take away tessa actually choosing will (which i think she should and will)

Aw no I hope Jem isn’t actually dead! Also, so ready for Will and Tessa to find each other - I want Tessa to choose him though not because Jem has died. There isn’t long left of the book so I kinda need them to start building on their relationship now… I like where we are at with Mortmain but ready for a final fight too

I completely forgot about Tessa’s abilities ngl… I wish they used them a little bit more like when she pretended to be Jessamine (rip).
Jem now knows about Wills feelings?! Kinda anti-climatic but that’s in Jems character. Now the big reveal will be Tessa’s love for both of them.
I really hope it doesn’t just end with Jem dying and Will and her being together.
Happy it’s just Will rescuing her!

So far so good! Gideon and Gabriel’s character ħdevelopment is really appreciated. I like the romance subplots going on like Gideon and Sophie and now Garbiel and Cecily.
Not really missing Jessamine… jm also also surprised that they waited so long to get breakfast like i got a boob take kids

so excited to get back into this! already loving the brief tension we get between will and tessa. cecily is a nice addition but still a bit confused on why she’s suddenly here.
i like that we’ve gone straight into the action but no mention of mortmajn yet.

Now that it’s been 2 years fast forward and Lucy (insufferable) is with Martin, this is starting to remind me a lot of Normal People but less moving… I just feel like the writing isn’t super special.
But I like it! I think that Lucy will stay with Martin which is unfortunate but she’s also super annoying sooo

Lucy is so insane what the hell. I feel so bad for Martin.
Again, the writing could be better. Specifically Lucy will say conflicting things about how she feels about a situation. Like that that she loves Martin and she shouldn’t be using him but then that she doesn’t care. I feel like characterising her as the latter would make her character more complex - right now shes a bit flimsy

I’m enjoying this! Again, it progressed super fast and now they are together. I came into it thinking that it was going to be more of a slowburn but it’s focused now on them being a secret.
The writing is good but not great. It’s set in the 80s-90s but it feels oddly modern and some descriptions just miss the mark.
I think if the characters stayed a bit younger, the writing style would make more sense.
