Their relationship is progressingggg. I just don’t think Ari has fully grasped how he feels yet but it’s obvious Dante has. I’m curious how they are going to approach this.
The feeling I get when reading this is so easy and light and I just think it’s such a beautifully written book. It feels somewhat nostalgic

I am getting more into the symbolism of the book, particularly the rain and birds. Understanding that a bit better definitely makes the story more enjoyable!
I think though, the plot is becoming a bit repetitive. Aris depressed, he wants to know about his brother, he has conflicting feelings about Dante. I want him to do something so at least one of these things goes somewhere! Maybe see his brother.

Super easy to read bc it’s in Ari’s (a 15-year-olds) perspective. Some really pretty lines in here about this identity struggles and love for Dante.
I kinda like how there’s not much of a plot but that’s probably why it was a bit forgettable for me

I enjoyed the ending and having it all play out and hearing that he faked his death was interesting! I just kinda wish there was a plottwist and it wasn’t one of the main people on the island.
I don’t really understand how he committed in the end but I will check online the logistics of that.
Also Vera hanging herself I felt was unrealistic but whatever! I’d prefer him to come out and kill her…

I’m really enjoying this - not really any solid guesses on who it is, I think someone seperate from the main crew a but even then I might be disappointed because I won’t know them. Maybe Vera? She’s the most likely out of the 7 right now.
I wonder what Mr Roger’s has done to ensure no more soldiers are taken.

It’s a bit hard to keep up with all the characters in this one so I’m happy I am reading it on kindle so I can highlight and annotate!
I like that the deaths are connected to the nursery rhyme but it makes it a little bit predictable who will be next.
I love hearing their stories though and I’m curious who Owen’s aka Unknown is!

Clary wasn’t upset enough when she thought Have had died imo but I like the way things played out. A little bit confused on how her writing in the runes changed anything and why the angel could kill valentine?
I thought that was her one wish but then she resurrected Jace? Could’ve been clearer

These last 200 hundred pages have been sooo good. I’ve been on the edge of my seat ever since Valentine invaded Idris.
I don’t think Sebastian aka Jonathan is really dead, but I’m glad Jace knows the truth now. I think a lot of the next book will him grappling with not having a real family.

Simon is so so sweet - I love him and Clary’s friendship. Also happy to hear that him and Isabelle didn’t get together properly in her state

I thought that it would’ve been revealed by now that they weren’t siblings… but the last scene with them was super cute despite 🤷‍♀️
I lowkey still think “Sebastian” is actually valentines son and Clary’s brother.
Also Simon and Isabelle?! I don’t really like that they got together with Isabelle mourning but I am happy they did still.

OMG jace and clary wtf. absolutely insane she was gonna hook up with him still thinking they are siblings… I am so convinced that Sebastian is actually her brother with all this recognition talk but SHES KISSED HIM TOO?!
I like the pace of the plot even though Idris is entirely different from the first and second books again. Only thing is that I want more fighting!!

i lowkey want more gayness from alec i love reading his perspective but so stupid for leaving simon.
i like the change of setting to idris - again makes it feel different but in a good way compared to luke’s apartment last book.

I don’t really like how this book has been set predominantly in Luke or Magnus’ apartment - I feel like they are kind of boring and I’d want to see more of the Institute! Otherwise it gives it less of a magical vibe and feels very different.
I’m not entirely convinced Jace isn’t on Valentines side…
I like Simon and Maia together!
This book has just felt a bit less adventurous.

Firstly, kind of insane that Jace and Clary were professing their love for each other thinking they are siblings… I mean I know they actually aren’t but that was insane! Is it bad I want more of them though…
Also, YES I’m lowkey here for vampire Simon. I hope that distances him and Clary and they do it well.

Jace has seriously been pissing me off since finding out Valentine is his father… like yes big whoop but he’s still trying to kill everyone? I feel like he’s still pretty cut and dry morality wise.
I don’t like Clary and Simon together romantically but it’s obvious that’s temporary.
Can’t wait for Alec and Magnus content!

Also who is the narrator? One second it’s second person and then it’s Alice speaking and then it’s Ruby.
It definitely wouldn’t make sense for Alice to be coming to these intelligent yet on the nose conclusions since she was portrayed as very naive and inconspicuous when she was alive.

Just had to quickly mention I notice the author very explicitly points out the feminist notions in the book such as stating “everyone will know his name (murderer) not mine” and literally saying “whodunnit” etc., repetitively.
i think this takes out a lot of the impressiveness of the writing - what’s the point of just stating the themes of the book instead of showing them?

The plot line is too dragged out for my liking and it’s not really clear where it’s going which makes me less anticipated for what’s next.
Sometimes the random jumps to Alice’s perspective can be confusing and the brackets a bit weird. Also, she’s kind of a ghost AND white??
I’m intrigued though and I like this cast of characters. I wonder if the whodunnit matters at all to the story/is a big thing

The time jumps have been slightly confusing but long enough to eventually get into wherever you are in the story.
Is it terrible to say I think Alice is partly to blame for lying about her age to Mr Jackson? I mean yes, disgusting that he was her teacher but she said she was 18… maybe i’m terrible.
also, sometimes the meaning of scenes go a bit over my head like she cried seeing a random boy unconscious…?

Okk interesting so far… reading this bc i’m in nz and don’t have time to go book hunting yet (for mortal instruments)
I like the premise of knowing the “Jane Doe.” It’s cool and different that we know Alice will go missing and Ruby will find her but we’re building up to it.
However, I’m not sure about some of the writing - seems more literary than suspenseful and weird for a thriller.

Really enjoying it so far! I like how Jace and Clary have a flirtatious yet strained relationship - not quite an enemies to lovers but has the same effect when it comes to tension.
The pace is still perfect for me to follow and the world building is gradual and detailed.
The storyline has me hooked and even though I’ve seen the movie/tv show, I’m still wondering what happens next!

i’ve been wanting to start my Mortal Instruments journey after loving the movie and tv show and this hasn’t disappointed (yet)
obviously the world building has been made easier bc i’ve seen it on screen but there are more details like simon already wanting to admit his feelings to clary and more of madame dorothea
jaces character is also more sassy which i like!! also a good pace so far

i much preferred him before but now im definitely on team peter (yes i know there aren’t any teams and its complex blah blah)
also i wanted peter to be with sylvia but she’s confusing as hell. i mean i understand but (i would’ve rather heard her pov than marge’s) i hope he ends up alone to heal

Okay - now that I am on Part Three things are finally clicking for me and I am enjoying it.
I feel like this has been such a slow buildup; almost like a book of poetry and only now am I truly appreciating the characters and their nuances.
Peter’s complexity in dealing with his guilt and Ivan’s immaturity and misplaced hatred.
I wish the whole book was like this and not so drawn out!

still finding it difficult to pick up but i find myself really liking ivan and margaret’s characters. whenever i get to peter i get stumped and find myself wanting to put the book down. i just dont really get him and his relationships with naomi and sylvia

hmmmkayyy. i do find myself enjoying it WHILE i am reading, but not feeling a strong desire that i NEED to pick it up to find out what happens next. i think that’s due to a weak plot line but interesting characters. feeling a bit conflicted but certainly academic 🤓

Very interesting characters - I am still getting used to the writing style when it is Peter’s point of view because it’s very stagnant and confusing. I am guessing to reflect his mental space.
