So far super interesting. She’s adding some nuanced commentary regarding the difference in magical realism and fantasy: the latter often having colonial undertones where the author gets to exercise control by creating a world, its people and the rules. Will write more in my thoughts when the book is done

Time to start climbing again I guess who knows when it’ll be useful

Just read a really good chapter on racism in film and books and how oftentimes these portray racism as simply an obstacle that can be overcome and fixed by some “idyllic half retelling of history” rather than tackling the core issue which is that “racism is about power and the solving of it relies–in part– on people willing to give up on power”.
