Dad and I listened to a lot of Louis L’Amour audiobooks on the road. He would’ve loved this one.

“Donovan’s Brain” is why I don’t keep brains in jars anymore. It’s never good when they develop psychic powers and start making you do things you don’t want to do. In the novel, Donovan is trying to right a few wrongs. The brains in my jars are always like “I’m going to make you dust this apartment.”

This is an annual read for me.

One of my favorite moments of this novel is near the beginning when Dr. Maracot waves away concerns about being crushed by the pressures of the deep ocean. There wouldn’t be a novel if he was worried about things like physics.

He and his two companions drop into the depths of their bathysphere and find Atlantis.

It’s a fun little adventure that veers into Lovecraftian horror near the end.

If she’s making me teary-eyed at the halfway mark, what kind of emotional wreck will I be at the end?

I’ve tried reading this several times over the years and it will never stop being a beige test pattern to me.

This is my 1993 pick for the My Novel Life reading challenge. I DNF'd "The Ruins" but have higher hopes for this one.

I’m a quarter of the way through this 55-hour audiobook. It’s massive, but I’m loving it.

A good conclusion to a series that didn’t actually conclude. I’m glad he kept writing them because I’m an easy lay for Greek mythology.

It's that time again. I haven't read this one in awhile.

Ah, what the hell... one last western for June on the Range. This was my first Louis L'Amour novel.

You know it’s a good “rivals to lovers” romance when you keep yelling “Stop fighting and start kissing!”

The end is in sight (or maybe earshot, since I’m listening to the audiobook).

I read this 25-30 years ago and didn’t remember much other than I enjoyed it. My memories were not wrong. It’s a hell of a book so far.

Yay for my library and the Libby app for putting this in my grubby little hands.

It started slow but now it’s picking up speed.

This is one of my favorite books. Time to read it again.
