I’m now on the last chapter of the first section of this book: Living Without God. There are three sections. I greatly appreciate the author calling out clear distinctions between the true-self, loved-by-God and therefore loving, and the false-self, the wounded self, influenced by trauma and/or from experience with the false-self of others in our lives. I can totally relate to her descriptions of the false-self.

Helen Keller wrote, “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” Although that context differed than this autobiography, I can understand how she could’ve made the statement about her own life. What a privilege it is to share the perspective of someone who, as a girl, wondered if the warmth of the sun was “love.” Anne Sullivan, her teacher, went far beyond her role portrayed in “The Miracle Worker.”

After watching “The Miracle Worker,” 1962, with Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke, I was inspired to read the words of Helen Keller herself. The book has little to do with the movie/play. Rather, after a brief introduction to the period the movie portrays, it becomes rich with her experiences of learning about the world around her. What extraordinary insight into an amazing world indeed.

Every sentence has power! I’m enjoying this book and taking it slow. This and The War of Art by Steven Pressfield I will read again.

The author is of Reformed Theology, with which I disagree. Yet, it is still useful in reminding me Jesus is right here in my heart.

It resonates with my journey in recovery towards healing, but challenges my understanding of God’s word. So, I’m learning to reframe it so it harmonizes with both.

CAUTION!! The brand of spirituality is definitely new age even though it quotes Jesus and The Holy Bible. Read it with the Christ you already know in mind. Nevertheless, I'm getting value from the author's approach to dealing with past emotional wounds, or inner-child.
