Man this Alaska place sounds cool, I wish it were real

Predicting 4/5 stars for content and research and 2/5 stars for style and craft. So far it reads like a first draft of a Master’s thesis, but damn if it isn’t an interesting one

Everyone who kept recommending that I experience this via audiobook did not prepare me for the narrator sounding exactly like the AI voice used in those memes about the peener snipper guy

The editor is apparently known for his work in horror, and BOY does it show. One chapter was just the journal excerpts of a trapper starving to death in the wilderness. 20 pages later, there’s an account about a winter Denali summit where a hiker tumbles so rapidly down the slope that chunks of flesh blast off him each time his mangled body skids across the rocks.

8.5/10 this shit has actually given me nightmares

Just finished part one, but I’ll be putting this book on hiatus while I work through my Denali-sized TBR that needs to be finished before Alaska. Still, hopefully this canal will take me less time to finish than it did the French 😜

Thus far, it falls well with me

Almost as good as the IMAX 3D movie narrated by Morgan Freeman that they showed us at the canal

Yeah, I was supposed to finish this a week ago…but this is absolutely grueling. The slow decline and then absolute nosedive in quality in this book kinda mirrors that of this whole series. Annihilation is still a top 5 sci-fi though
