Wow ok this one is really serious now. Probably the most claustrophobic I've felt reading this series, and the threat truly made an impression. Also loving the new background tasks Murderbot is doing, Hashtag Mental Health (ew) Matters

Interesting how a lot of these more recent stories have started right in the middle of the action. Who are we talking about!! Why are we here!! Is so cool... All I really care about is Murderbot tho and it is very much here so yay

Worst book ever

Movie did the scene better, but I am still eternally grateful for the Coward Representation here. Being afraid is not a moral failing!!!!

Con: No heroic reunion where Grace saves Rocky from the Taumoeba
Pro: More time for them to work together on things and also for more Cool Science Experiments
Good tradeoff

This book-reading thing is no joke. Now that the story is in full-full-swing, it is so hard to put this down. It's all just so cool!!! And hopecore!!! And also devastating!!! Grace Rocky best friends forever, statement.

Oh man talk about tone whiplash. Loving the more in-depth Rocky info, it's so cool!!! And it's really proven just how dire the situation on Earth is here. The movie def still got the Vibes right, but it had to sacrifice so much stuff just to do it. I think now more than ever, I am The Opposite Of Regretting my decision to pick this up.

Ohhhhh the language thing is so cool... Rocky so smart too...

Man this is probably the most sucked into a book I've been in a while

I NEED THAT ROCK HERE NOW!!!!!! Genuinely devastating seeing Grace mourn his fellow crew before even remembering that much about them, though. Plus, since the narration gives us a much more in-depth look into his psyche, the book really explores just how crazy everything would be (while still somehow giving it all a scientific mundanity to it all).

So cool getting to see the whole Astrophage experiment phase again, though I'm slightly disappointed Steve wasn't as big a character as he was in the movie... probably only because most of it was visual gags. I like this funny little science fella they should make him Ryan Gosling

It's interesting going back to the intro knowing how the story goes. Despite the apocalyptic level of existential dread Astrophage represents, this is still a very lightheaded story. Probably has to do with the dry comedy of the narration, but also because I'm waiting for that silly rock to peak its head around the corner any second now.

I find it really interesting catching glimpses of Danielewski's signature style of foreshadowing that he used in House of Leaves - inviting multiple narrators who know the future to set the mood for what comes next. It makes this story in particular feel more emphemeral and legend-like. Every chapter reads like a fated tragedy. This didn't have to happen. Maybe they should've stayed by that campfire forever...

This may either be the best or worst book to read right before bed, it's so calming I find myself fighting not to drift off to sleep. I MUST AT LEAST FINISH THE CHAP-zzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

What an intro. Despite this book's hefty length, I can already feel it's gonna be a breeze. It so instantly immersed me in its story, the casual narration, drifting between retelling and metanarrative, is so powerful. And even though it was just a short time we got to know the friendship between the two boys, seeing it end was devastating. Can't wait to read more!!!
