Somehow some way this book is freedom like like water shines its reflection. There is nothing like it

Depressing. I feel hollowed out dedicating a day to this book. I’ve held my breathe for some great introspection on what makes us human, what makes life so distinct from the imitation of an android? It isn’t even laid out. I’m granted wisps of all the things I could have done without. Sex, action, detective work. Where is the meat? Admit some new truth to me god damnit

A great handbook. An indirect sort of field guide from Stars abstract to real tangible life. Linda Goodman amazes me

Finding great peace at reading a book I half recall half reading years ago

Insufferable

Objectively not a very well written or gripping book, but the bits on Simon’s youth mean a lot to me, and I don’t really mind the “this and then this and then this” accounting through his musical career. Do I think it’s a bit of a disservice? Yes. That’s okay it’s not the end of the world it’s just a book

This dude low key pissin me off

Through my enjoyment it’s dawning on me that I would probably get more out of this book if I had the slightest clue who Ernest Walsh or Wyndham Lewis or Ezra Pound were, but I’m okay with setting all that aside. It’s still interesting to see what ‘the thick of it’ was for the art world giants of the 1920s. I imagine Yung Lean having drinks with Jack Donoghue.

I think this one ended up in a box somewhere but I’m at least this far and definitely finishing it. Do I even have to say it I love paul Simon. I feel great kinship with the sweet young man that’s described in the chapters on his early years in the music industry.

My dad gave me this book so I’m trying to reserve harsh judgment out of respect for him. So far pretty compelling, I like how the story is introduced, and what’s been analyzed thus far is fairly interesting. Hoping to feel closer to pop and to myself.

Reading this book as someone older than 13 is a trying exercise in patience and ridicule and I think I’m going to give up because I don’t like it

Boring as hell, reads like the shit I wrote in eight grade, when I thought I was the deepest kid on earth because I structured my sentences in ways that were both incredibly dumb and desperately sophisticated. Hard to want to keep reading but we’ll see.

The picture he paints gets richer and richer every page it almost breaks my heart knowing I won’t enjoy reading it for the first time again
