Turns out I never knew the books I added here when I started them never showed I finished them. Sorry if you see a million updates from me next time you look at your friends page. If you do that, which, if you don't, you won't see this anyway. Also, as usual, I've read many more than I have listed on here. I really wish I was better at this, as it seems awfully nice and jolly to do.

The typeface has changed with this one; it's more like a blog font than something suitable on a paper page, and I'm finding it visually irritating. I'm all for inexpensive publishing, but everyone has access to the full range of typography.

Seems like it'll be another good story, though.

I have fallen in love for the first time in many years. With this book. Will it be a brief fling or a long-term investment? A few more days will tell the tale.

Goodreads says this book has 368 pages. My copy has 331. Curious. But it's essays, you know, and probably I'll be skipping around, reading them out of order, soon enough. One does.

This is so compelling. I've paused in mid-1776, just as General Washington is about to make another strategic error. On pins and needles to learn how that all comes out. :-)

Going to read lots of biographies this year, mainly presidents, and writers of the early 20th century, but we'll see what turns up. I wish the goal to set here wasn't just a number of books, because I always read a zillion anyway, So I'm going to think on that, to make sure I challenge myself all year.

This year, my challenge is for two of the books I read each week to be from contemporary authors, and in looking for good prospects, I am avoiding stories written in first person, and those with a preponderance of hads on each page. I follow a half dozen series, or maybe closer to ten, but otherwise plan to keep mainly to individual stories: mysteries, literary and general fiction.

I'm not doing a numbers reading challenge again. It isn't all that hard to read so many books, but it's hard to keep up with logging them fully, and then I don't bother to review them at that point, and it feels...like mass production. I've set myself a new and better challenge for next year, which I'll talk about in my blog soon.

Silly challenge, still telling me I'm "behind," as if reading should follow a strict linear program. In truth, I read only 15 books in July, and that's the month in which I usually read more like 40. But reading isn't meant to be a race, and anyway I'm aiming for more careful selection this season. :-)

I don't have time to read this right now! I usually burn through each Inspector Gamache book the moment I get it. But I read the first chapter today, just to make it mine.

This is a hardcover edition from October 2015. It's really beautiful and will be perfect to enjoy this weekend.

I just marked 12 books read today. Sorry. I will do better. I should use Kindle thing more; it would be sort of automatic.

I have read so many books since I last updated here in February, I don't know where to begin. I'd like to make this a regular destination, actually.

No, annual goal. As usual, I am not "behind schedule." I will finish the goal by August or September, and then forget to add the rest of the books I read in 2016. You see, I do not read 2.88 books per week. Sometimes I read one, sometimes I read sixteen. A year is not measured by weeks alone.

I did not start this book today. You are so much more linear than me, Goodreads.

This arrived on my Kindle Fire this morning. All others must be set aside for it.
