Russian names are kind of fire, but they’re also confusing 😭 nothing a good ol’ sticky note can’t fix!

I didn’t know my edition of White Nights is actually a short story collection. The first one is titled “A Nasty Business”. Inch resting inch resting.

This is so good. I was belly laughing throughout chapter X (vol. 2). Maybe it was the residual high from the night prior that gave me extra giggles but still!!

I totally get the Jane Austen hype

In a bit of a reading slump at the moment, but so far this is a good time. A bit confusing at times I’ll admit, and often I’m rereading paragraphs, sometimes more than twice LOL.

Harriet is a gem

Perfect read to end this doggone year!

My first Jane Austen, finally! So far I’m really digging this, and the characters are all very silly. I particularly like Harriet and Mr. Woodhouse the most so far.

So yeah… I am comparing it to Clueless BUT I’m aware that movie is only a loose adaptation of Emma; it’s not a perfect one-to-one retelling, nor was I expecting it to be.

One thing’s for certain tho: this will be a fun time!

Wow… for Woolf to tackle gender fluidity and its rigid structures placed upon us via societal expectations, DURNG THE LATE 1920s NONETHELESS, is impressive as hell.

With that said, however, I’m a bit disturbed by her descriptions of cultures and people who — can you guess what I’m about to say? — are non-white. Hmmm.

I wonder what VW would think of people like me reading her work. I digress…

My slowest read of the year for sure. It takes extra time and effort to read a page, there’s so much Googling involved, but so far it’s worth it. Silly Orlando

Woolf’s writing is taking me some time to adjust, admittedly. I love the narration though! As well as her off-center descriptions; so silly and somehow also profound? Maybe I’m just easy lol.

I’m allowing myself extra time to reread pages and bask in them. What’s the rush, right? I have only two books left to complete this year’s reading goal, but comprehension is a bigger priority.

I keep pushing.

Gothic lit is exponentially growing on me. Each line is so dramatic! And Mary’s extensive use of the word heaven adds to the gothy goth gothness. I shall savor this book so it doesn’t end

A series of letters to prelude the main story? I’m already obsessed I fear

And Mary Shelley’s writing flows in such a way it ‘elevates me to heaven’, honestly. No wonder these books are classics wtf. Where have I been???

I’ve only read the author’s intro so far. I can’t wait to FINALLY dig into this classic, gothic tale of death, birth, love and all the messy in-betweens… Yea I’m a couple centuries late to the party but we ball

Turns out I’m obsessed with tree metaphors, or I just like trees. Either way, this and Jane Eyre are quickly converting me into a Brontë stan.

The power of promises cannot be understated. I am growing nervous!

The uncontrolled yearning is so very real. Had I read this during the peak of puberty I would have exploded by now. Still, I’m excited to see how the story unfolds from here.

How far into Jane’s life will we get to read? I need to know!!

Sometimes it feels like I’m reading someone’s diary without their knowledge.

Not sure where this going though.

Adult Jane narrates her childhood mind. Fun perspective! Although her circumstances aren’t very fun. The Reeds and Dursleys would be good friends I think.
