I literally turned the page and she is comparing using a bovie to cauterize skin to a concentration camp and human sacrifice. I’m stopping the book here

Honestly super annoyed so far. She’s very “pity me. I’m so lost” and complains on practically every page. For example, she says “I never did figure out why touching one edge of a three-foot table would instantly unsterilize everything by that was in it.” This is her LOOKING BACK as an ACTUAL PHYSICIAN. Kind of an alarming thing to say. Just one of many examples.

Honestly it’s very beautifully written. So many lines have made me stop and think— not even so much because of how they relate to the plot. Just really good stuff

Very casual but interesting! Learned about her live in Spanish lit but this book is making me feel like I know Isabelle Allende personally

Reminds me a lot of Max porter’s book, grief is a thing with feathers. Honestly a fantastic read so far

Some of the most engaging prose I’ve read in a while.

It’s interesting how the narrator navigates serious conversations with his dad, who is seemingly at the end of his life. Just when you think they’ll finally talk, the father becomes incapable. He seems to have a MPD (the dad). It’s also a good depiction of the time between tough conversations — the mundane between storms.

It looks me a few tries to start it but I finally got into it. Really well written. Kind of mundane happenings so far but it’s written poetically to make the norm stand out

It’s really something. Unfortunately, it might be one of those, “iykyk” things, though. It’s about a mother and daughter— mother is terminally ill. At the beginning, the daughter finds out her mom only has about 6m left. But the mom’s illness is never really actualized. It’s about the time between actualized illness and death (or maybe she lives, idk) and what that looks like for her daughter.

I mean, wow. Not something I can relate to in topic, but definitely something I can relate to in tone and feeling. It’s beautifully written and oddly clear for a book written by a grieving parent.

It’s a dark read for sure, but I can’t help but feel for the main character. I imagine it would be a lot to live with the anxiety that she does. Also, a lot of the language she uses sounds a little off, like it was translated wrong or was meant to make the reader feel even more awkward about the main character’s disposition. A good read though… so far!

It’s a really unique read. Not at all what I thought it would be, but I’m pleasantly surprised! Easy to read, thought provoking, and also makes you realize how much motherhood really demands
