Look I know these characters probably aren’t meant to be relatable, and that this is supposed to be a story about two different types of people that are in a relationship that succeeds and fails because of those differences, but Rooney really captures the misery of dating after being abused

Violet is so insufferable omfgggg. She’s so self centered and whiny. Her boyfriend is leading a revolution against an imperial force that’s killed thousands including his entire family and she’s mad that he wont tell her classified information. She’s a terrible soldier maybe that’s the point but I still think it’s so dumb to be boy crazy during a war over liberty.

I heard that the creator hated the film adaption which is starting to make a lot more sense to me. The books are much more thorough on the critique of race, citizenship, sexuality, borders, and nuclear holocaust after a facist White ethno-state government comes into power. The movie is just corny in comparison.
