I love this author. First book I have read by him. His description of people and places make you feel you are there. The book begins with John, a 14 year old orphan who goes to live with an uncle and aunt in Devon, England. He meets Diana, the daughter of the wealthy occupants of the large home in his little town. Their friendship becomes love but there are many ups and downs of their relationship.
