Now I’m getting M Night The Village vibes.

I don’t know how I feel about this read so far. I personally don’t think Natalie’s character makes sense. She’s a devout tradwife who is against feminism, but she is also a feminist? I thought freshman Natalie was the most consistent. Everything else has felt incongruent. Fast read so far. Will continue.

This story has bewitched me, body and soul, ensnared my senses, surprised me in multiple turns. Alix. Oh Alix. I love your writing.

I’m going to DNF.

How does the top review for this book call it adorable? The writing is so good. Demus’s story is heart wrenching. Things are still very intense.

This is super intense so far. Very good but very intense.

Read a few pages and found myself wondering why I was spending more time on a man who bombards my newsfeed. Decided to DNF because I just don’t need more of this man in my life.

“He gripped Lopen’s hand in thanks. The old one. His Bridge Four hand, not his Knight Radiant hand.” Awww

Chapter 8 was absolutely hilarious and romantic!

You know, you may not be everyone’s cup of tea but if you make yourself bland, no one will want ya. Might as well be the strongest, best cup of tea you can be and the people who like what you’re serving will want some everyday. With honey and a biscuit.

It certainly doesn’t feel good to pretend to the world but I can tell you from experience, it feels worse to pretend to the ones you love most.

Edsa was not my revolution, but it gave me a story grander than the dragon slayers of my fairy tales. It was one part myth, two parts magic, peopled by giants, all thunder and power and bright yellow hope.

I can’t write it all, but page 31-32 on the Edsa Revolution. Wow.

Your honor, even if I’m the worst person in the world, nothing will change that it was a soldier who shot Ninoy.

The Filipino, he said in one of his last speeches, was worth dying for.

We did what we could to report on corruption and abuses of power. President Duterte gave Raper another name. He called us fake news.

I wrote about terrible things that happened because those things shouldn’t happen again. Then one day the man who would be president promised deaths of his own citizens. The terrible became ordinary, to thundering applause.

“The police said Pa has fought back. They said he was a drug dealer. They said they had killed Pa in self-defense.”

This all sounds too familiar.

Democracy, like murder, this is a simple word. I saw it as a general Goode opposed to a general wrong. By democracy, I did not mean the elected administration. The government, every government, failed often, was complicit often, was by and large incompetent, hypocritical, and out of touch. The democracy, I believed in was the nation, a community of millions who saw brutality of an evolution to be condemned.

I was born in 1985, five months before a street revolution brought democracy back to the Philippines. That year it seemed every other middle-class mother had named their daughter Patricia. Evangelista, my surname, common in my country, derives from the Greek euangelos, “bringer of good news.” It is an irony I am informed of often.

After a reading hiatus followed by a string of DNFs and some non-fiction, I feel ready to come back to the Stormlight Archive. Restarting Oathbringer tonight!

Reading this for a book club. I just finished chapter 10. I guess there are no standards for published books anymore, and decent writing is no longer necessary.

“Nice, eh?”

Perspective. This is why reading is so important to me.

The world of PR and Politics is antithetical to medicine. This read so far is entertaining, maddening, and straight depressing all at once. Why are there people like this? Author included.
