I usually steer away from Iranian diaspora fiction and I’m already not too keen on it from the beginning, although I am curious about how the themes of US imperialism and martyrdom will be explored more throughout the book.

A separate note, it’s so heartbreaking reading Chapter 3 and both Ali and Roya’s narratives from when the US shot down civilian aircraft from Iran jn 1988.

Such an incredible memoir from an anti-imperialist educator and poet committed to pedagogy and empowering youth voices. The poems written from his students in the 90s, sharing solidarity with Palestine and South Africa, are so moving!
