Damn, the first chapter could read as a standalone little eco-horror story.

A good amount of Borges in here, though any amount is a good amount.

Civis Lapitus Sum begins like this: "I am a sick, lonely, and triumphant man looking through the pages of a book. You too are looking through this book, and you see me. Who were you, who lived in the pearl-white world below when sunlight reached the ground? I need your help, your advice; your world (which I once knew) was so much wider."

Some of this idyllic American patriotism is a little depressing to read lol. Not sure how many of those songs are still singing.
