While yes the POVs include, as the book describes, a reformist and his apolitical partner, there are also the Kommunistas and the Haraka (Arabic for movement, one of the words in the full names of Hezbollah and Hamas) so I feel like the politics are varied!! Wish the Kommunistas were cooler tho lol

I get why there isn’t an audiobook version, this is like reading the Moon is a Harsh Mistress 🥴

I know I’m biased but I wish this book went more into Great Depression organizing 😔

I disagree with some of the analysis but this is a good overview of protests and uprisings I was not familiar with before. Plus unlike other nonfiction books that include details of the author’s life, Bevins’ really blends seamlessly with other accounts and helps put the then-youth movements into the context of the time.

Finally, I’m reading a book I enjoy 😭
This book reminds me of What My Bones Know, which I also really enjoyed!

The politics are bad but NAARPR mention!!!!

Why do I do this to myself?

I refuse to finish this book because the phantom trauma and self victimization revolts me. Would give zero stars and a terrible review if the butthurt zios wouldn’t come after me. Instead if I really want to hear about antisemitism I’ll read Doppelgänger by Naomi Klein or listen to Bad Hasbara or Matt Bernstein’s podcast ep abt the antisemitism panic, people who don’t use their own oppression to justify genocide.
