I think the dizzying nature of the head hopping is especially effective in capturing the complexities of WWI society, how it feels like the end of the world for some and how life goes on as usual for others.

by birth who remained unmarried and is more interested in politics than people or parties, who has the freedom and power to assert influence.

I also love the juxtaposition between Mrs. Dalloway's interpretation of her husband's lunch with Lady Burton, that she assumes there is something romantic between them, while her husband frets over his jealousy of Peter Walsh and that he doesn't tell his wife he loves her

I love in particular the juxtaposition posed between Dr. Holmes and Sir William, that while Sir William is easily able to identify that Septimus is shellshocked, he blames Septimus's bad blood and suggests that the shellshock is due to some crime Septimus has committed rather than the atrocities of war he has witnessed. I also love the juxtaposition between Mrs. Dalloway and Lady Burton, a married socialite vs a lady

While the head hopping can be quite dizzying, I do love the way Woolf is able to juxtapose various pov's in order to interrogate various issues such as gender, marriage, and the effects marriage has on gender roles, the arbitrary nature of the British class system and how class defines how lives within it are valued or disregarded.

Very interesting stuff in terms of the technique. Arguably, a lot of people would call the technique head hopping, floating between various perspectives, all written in the style of stream of consciousness. It is quite dizzying. I think the ways in which she threads the perspectives together - a car backfiring, an airplane writing in the sky, etc - and then identifies that she's in a new perspective is interesting.

It's giving Heart of Darkness meets Lolita so far. It's interesting, but not necessarily enjoyable.

Some really difficult material in this. Sticking it out because it's still compelling.
