Kendra is starting Heretic: Jesus Christ and the Other Sons of God
Also glad to learn of Celsus who was adversarial to the early church at 178CE - "Christians, needless to say, utterly detest one another; they slander each other constantly with the vilest forms of abuse, and cannot come to any sort of agreement in their teaching. Each sect brands its own, fills the head of its own with deceitful nonsense...".

I think I’m dnf ing this book mostly for the tone - but I do need to read whatever texts includes Mary’s magical cauterizing vagina. And maybe I’ll pick up some Pagels again.

Kendra is starting The Conquest of Happiness
Half way through — it’s interesting as a study of an era that feels long ago - the comparison of the sexes is laughable to me and maybe it’s the reliance on Freud or the lack of understanding or care to understand women’s issues. Ex: sex is less sullied by ideas of sin for women than it is for men? Insane idea.

Kendra is starting In the Shelter: Finding a Home in the World
This book rings poetic, beautiful prose, ideas and theology that hits the heart and mind equally. I’m listening but I need to get a physical copy in my hand to write down some quotes.

Kendra is starting Fugitive Pieces
This is another of her books that I immediately started rereading after I finished- her prose is gorgeous, impressionistic in style, and I tend to get lost in the words and forget to pay attention to the storyline. Anyway, I read this over many months since there was a waiting list for the audiobook, and I felt I needed to reread it to really feel through it. Her words induce mirror neurons of ache, pain, longing.
