I see why people like this book. But this is one that I do not really enjoy.

Is this a romance??? Dang it! This is not what I wanted when I picked up this book.

I feel super homesick and want to go back out to the hill east of Sacramento. To see the gold fields that are mentioned in this book. To walk the trails and see the environment that Joaquin Murrieta would have been riding through.

The feelings that this book invokes are similar to when I listened to A Boy Called IT. A lifetime of pain and abuse leads to a thoughtful life where you can appreciate what you have. But the feelings of sadness are hard to ignore.

Reading the story along with the explanation is wonderful. I am reading the "books" (more like chapters) and then the explanations of its meanings.

I am finding myself gripped by this narrative.
