A very great book. Shaping up to be a 4 or 5 star depending on how Doris develops as a character.

Instantly hooked!

Good book that discusses important topics, but I’m not necessarily learning anything new. I’m quite familiar with these topics as a Black woman. This book is definitely good for a nonBlack woman of color or a White woman.

Moving first few pages.

Currently listening to “Oh Girl” by the Chi-Lites and about to start sobbing. I love this book so bad. I don’t see myself giving it anything other than 5 stars unless something insanely bad happens. Like wow…

I created some stipulations for my 2024 reading challenge:

1. No short stories. All books must be over 100 pages. If I want to read a short story, I can of course, I just cannot count it toward the challenge.

2. No books I read for class as a college student.

3. Read the books on my “Want To Read” list instead of looking for new books.

4. Be more objective in my reviews and ratings.

i love this book.

i’m on chapter 10 and i’m having a great time. ryan o’connell you r eating this so bad rn, lol! i did not expect this book to be SO lewd but…it kinda works. cheating sucks ofc but i understand elliot wanting to be seen as a person and not be discounted because of his disability. it’s an interesting perspective that we don’t hear enough about in the media.

it’s cute so far. anastasia (i love that name) is a bit dramatic. it wasn’t nate’s fault that rink #2 is out of order…she shouldn’t blame him for that. it was wrong of him to tell a little lie about him not knowing what happened but she doesn’t have to be so rude about it in MY opinion. i’m only 50 pages in and i know for a fact that aaron is going to hell :)

my god this book is so many beautiful and tragic things all at once. the prose is out of this world. i’m almost done and i don’t want to be!!

i am taking forever with this book and not on purpose…one more chapter left! 😭

chapter 2 was so sad ://

i finished “chapter one, the lovers” and wow. i rlly liked the writing! the story was cute. i’m not sure if i like the idea of fumiko waiting THREE long years for goro but if she love him THAT bad i guess that’s the right to do…

read the preface and the introduction to part one. i’ll try to read chapters 1 and 2 tomorrow, which are on “philosophy and the afro-american experience” and “african-american existential philosophy”
