Off to a slower start than The Frozen River…less privateering than expected thus far but Grace OMalley is fearless and I’m here for that energy.

Well we have gone utter depressing… death, grief processing, melancholy, suicide of siblings, forgotten family history, the Khmer Rouge, the cultural revolution, migration, nationalism, and utter loneliness

JC is an assmunch. Andrew is insufferable. The amount of gaslighting and passive aggressive behavior in this book is astonishing. I hope some character becomes tolerable.

I resonate so much with the shame of not being fluent in the languages of my parents… there is an honesty to her writing, a pettiness to the characters that mirrors freshmen competition, and it’s also very self indulgent

So far this is a little dry for me. The subject matter is interesting enough, as Lily the FMC is off to Taiwan for a summer, with a goal of becoming fluent in Chinese… I resonate with her feeling of otherness but also she’s hard to relate to… I shall report back as I get further in.

I am definitely loving all the 90s historical references and I didn’t guess one of the twists so far.. I suspect everyone!

So this is going to be one of those books where every chapter ends with a heart pounding

Spent the first 1/4 trying to remember where this story left off. The characters have come back to me but not how qi works..

very futuristic dystopian, evil empire, conspiracy, good versus evil trope, some of the racing chapters remind me of action scenes in Star Wars

It was a slow start but has my attention now that the police detective has entered the scene. Plant lady is formidable 😅, she has no chill when it comes to taking out men who have wronged

Very fun magic system, characters a little juvenile, but then again, appropriate for YA

This is so dark, and I am so so nervous for the main character and whether she is going to be murdered by her controlling toxic ex boyfriend… and whether she is actually enjoying and consenting because it felt like she was, until she was not. 😳 OMG has anyone else read this?!!!!!!

I’m on the edge of my seat!! 💺 cannot wait to see how this ends. Total anti heroes book 📕

The side character drama is a little much 🙈 I’m starting to think with this many near misses by the hiking guides, they’d all be fired and the company would go under if they made poor decisions in the wilderness / rapelling, hiking close to cliffs and almost getting people killed omg 😳

Moving along quickly… trying to see if I can finish this one before publication now. Interesting that there is quite a bit of side character plot development not just only focused on the two main characters.

This is super cute, enjoying the dual audio narration. It’s a classic storyline of: girly-girl decides to go on a 2 week adventure backpacking “vacation” to prove she can, falls for the hunky, rugged outdoors-guide. Opposites attract..

I loved the authors prior book (the women on platform 2), so giving this one a go. I enjoy her descriptions and plot but I’m wondering when we are going to get to the midwife part..!

Very much enjoying the concept of instancing, this is a multiverse book where the copies exist in the same timeline..!
