Okay, so this book is definitely more lust than love. They waste no time getting to business! This book is definitely not for the holier than thou folks, I’ll tell you that

Need to read something to make me happy and what better book to read about gay people in love lol

“Every word was a drop of honey that warmed me to my core.” This direct quote from the book is exactly how I feel when reading it. The love that Magnolia has, that she describes is so heartfelt, so authentic that it makes me giddy just reading about it.

“This is a world built by men, for men.” This was sold to me as a romance, but honestly it’s more of a feminist novel and I am here for it! The two immigrant daughters don’t let Indonesian expectations for women determine their lives whatsoever

Immigrant parents have the highest expectations for their children. I damn near feel that Magnolia’s parents are my own!

Not gonna finish this before book club today, but will finish it soon. It doesn’t have much of a thrill so far, so really just finishing to see who did it

Okay, so far, but what’s with all the clear product placement in this book so far?

I will continue to sing high praises to this audiobook narrator. The story overall continues to try to address too many things at once that makes it hard to follow. It’s reminding me of The Order of the Phoenix

I love S.A. Cosby’s books as they always have you on a wild ride! He’s descriptive, but not overly descriptive and you truly feel like you’re immersed in the story

They really don’t have to list every Black plight in this book, it’s too much. Really enjoying the narrator though. This kid is a star

I’m enjoying this book, but I also feel that it’s overly descriptive with Black vernacular and Black male life. You don’t need to include every single Black issue in this book… Anyway, still enjoying the HBCU magic and the villain’s plot.

Only 20 pages in, but it’s just maddening how this book was written 40 years ago and the state of African countries still remains the same.
