I'm taking a break from this book because I started 'Around the World in 80 days' and want to have time when done with that book to concentrate on this one. So far I'm super impressed with Qureshi's ability to compare and contrast in a clear and understandable style.

Incredible tale from one of the most creative science fiction writers I've ever read. Two problems with it, One, I thought it was written as a self-standing novel and not necessarily intended only as a part One. Two, the very ending where the author draws upon The Wizard of Oz (scene where the city of Oz comes into view across fields of poppies) to set up the final approach to the time tombs is totally out of place.

Mainly a story about the Marines who fought and died at Okinawa, but from the vantage point of how many of those men were star football players who came together to play a football game in one of the rare quiet moments. Well researched and interesting, but very disturbing description of what humans can bring themselves to do to other humans.

The book was well researched and an enjoyable read, mostly because I grew up in Ohio and know the land and places being written about.
