starting to really feel like i’m reading something that could be v v powerful, i should savor this

trying to read this as slow as i can, i don’t ever want it to end

rereading this for the second time for book club, read this in covid and was thrown into a deep emotional hole after finishing this hahaha let’s see how it reads again :’)

going on a trip to the great smokies, i couldn’t not start this

still reading through the introduction and i’m already frothing at the mouth

started reading this as i was getting my nails done today after seeing it on shelves so often—and i get it. i’m gripped, and i love the narrator’s train of thought. very into harpman’s writing style. can’t wait to keep going.

my progress w this book is shameful… i’ve been so busy! but so far i’m enjoying it thoroughly, as a new york city resident who definitely needs this crash course on ny history but also as a frequent oyster enjoyer and a history gal!

i’ve been working a lot and didn’t get to jump into this book right away but i’m breezing through it atm

started reading this while getting my nails done and i’m breezing through it—this is like a bad hallmark show or a tiktok fanfic and i can’t stop lol

actually laugh out loud funny, about halfway through and it just makes me excited to read more of moshfegh’s work

my biggest (but one of very few) qualm about this book is the pacing—it’s erratic and unpredictable, which is not necessarily a bad thing but it’s taking *me* a lot of adjusting to

taking my a while to get through, haven’t been reading as much as i would like to!

already so far so intimately written—ann patchett knows how to establish characters alright!

reading this book is like wading through old sludge—so emotional and so deeply depressing. there aren’t any wins, dori just died, demon is fighting for his life everyday.

so beautifully written, i’ve highlighted things here in the first third of the book more than highlights from entire books. but this is soooo tragic, i find myself bracing reading through some paragraphs sometimes. demon needs a fucking break.

i’ve seen this book around so much and after several recommendations i finally caved in—starting this was a little rough, it’s guilty of one of my biggest pet peeves in a book: the gratuitous over-explanation of things and random buzzwords to characterize people (in this case, ‘gamers’) but that’s definitely gotten better by a third of the book in. interested to keep reading!

what an incredibly rewarding book so far—i’ve been taken into a crazy dark fantastical fairy tale and i’m so here for it. how inventive.

my progress hasn’t been at the pace i wanted but i’ve been on vacation so i’m only now picking it back up but hooooly shit this book is a wild ride

stoner’s life is sooooo fucking sad, man. and so far none of the sadness has been caused by himself, just a victim of circumstances, and of other people and their choices. i hope things look up for him. :(

i’m constantly having to stop and express appreciation for williams’ writing style—so incredibly refreshing.

what an interesting writing style from williams — a real true literal narrative with almost zero fluffy prose. it’s a breath of fresh air. i’m ecstatic to see how stoner unravels, so far his life has been pretty unremarkable

happy to just be reading something fun and light

ok it’s picking back up but i’m still v annoyed by how many useless characters justin cronin keeps introducing!!!! tell me why i should care about someone’s cousin’s neighbor!!!!!!

man this is now proving to be a difficult book to get through, the first act was great and i was gripped but the story has shifted into something else with new characters i find so hard to give a shit about. i’m realizing cronin loves really flowery prose and fragmented dialogue which is starting to drive me nuts. i’m gonna keep slogging through it but woooof this is gonna be long.
