Know what's worse than having an awful cold complete with fever and vomiting? Being pregnant with a cold with fever and vomiting :/

Every time I cough, a tiny dude kicks the fuck out of my organs. And when i vomit, he kicks my bladder so hard I pee myself.

It's awesome :/

Oh, and I can't take any cold medicine, so that's a fun bonus.

After weeks and weeks of bedrest, vomiting, dizziness, and heartburn that hurts my whole body, I am finally feeling like my normal self!
11 weeks pregnant and feeling so much better.
Good, because I have a lot of decluttering to do before baby gets here :)
First trimester sucked so bad.

Um....we still do this in 2022?
Just up in here glamorizing eating disorders like it's 2005 i guess

Not off to a great start. That prologue was DRY. Very boring and full of rhetorical questions. Silly breaking of the 4th wall "this is the story of"
Continuity issue. The prologue ends with 'six months earlier...' and then a page later when chapter one starts, it says 'one year earlier...'

So glad I decided to pick this one back up. October is the best time for a Darcey Coates haunted house book.

Here's what I got so far: author obsessively complains in goodreads groups about one review that called his book misogynistic.
I decided to read out of curiosity.
Book is, in fact, misogynistic.
Women are constantly being raped and groped and it's treated very flippantly, almost slapstick. Female characters act like porn NPCs.
I'm curious to see how many posts my upcoming 1 star review will get.

"Although he did not admit it to himself, he loved it when Jane told him what to do."
This author wonders why one reviewer called the book misogynistic. Maybe because women in this book literally can't do anything-not even their actual fucking jobs-without it being pornified.
I'm not sure the author realizes how obvious his femdom fetish is.

We get it, author. You want a mommy dom to kick you in the penis. Every woman in this book acts like a porn category.

"She was a bitch with a whip and knew how to use it."
I have no doubt the author thinks they're being very progressive, very feminist.
But describing a well-educated scientist and a woman who naturally falls into a position of leadership as a "bitch with a whip" shows me you don't actually support women, you just have a preference for femdom porn. I suspected as much when Jane kept hospitalizing men who groped her.

Jane kisses Liz on the cheek and calls her cute......
Kisses her....in the workplace....when they met two days ago....and they are both professional scientists.
Why do so many men think women constantly act like a teen movie slumber party reenactment? i promise we don't all have this lesbian energy, and even for women who are lesbians: they know how to act professionally in the workplace! This is not how women bond!

How does Brian have a relationship with his mother that is filled with adoration and "almost oedipal" but is also "superficial"?
That makes no sense. Completely contradictory.

Saw this author complaining on goodreads that a reviewer called his book misogynistic.
Buddy, how you gonna write this stereotype women are catty hags who hate any woman prettier than them and then be shocked when people call out that misogyny?

Meek and simpering Asian dude who deadass adds "san" to people's names, despite being a highly-educated man living in America.
Oh good, so this book is both sexist and racist. Wonderful.

There is way too much rape and sexual assault in this book and it's all treated way too flippantly. Rape and sexual assault are topics that authors should cover in books, if they feel drawn to. But they need to treat the topics with the care and sensitivity required.
This borders on slapstick and it's appalling.

To add to my last thought: not only is the word North incorrectly capitalized, but it isn't even consistent. It's not capitalized in one sentence, then it is capitalized in the next sentence. If you're gonna be wrong, at least be consistent.

Several beginner level grammatical errors in this book. For example, directions are only capitalized if you are referring to a specific region. THE North or THE South are capitalized when referring to these regions in America. Walking north or walking south is not capitalized. This book desperately needs an editor with sixth grade grammar knowledge.

"Being a woman had in theory thrown some obstacles her way, but most men simply melted under her charm, so even that wasn't an impediment."
On the same page that talks about how this woman is constantly groped and sexually assaulted.
Yep. This was written by a man.
Narrator: Protagonist was groped and felt up all the time.
Also Narrator: Being a girl is easy! Teehee!

Buddy.....that's a you problem if a pair of titties has you thinking about fighting ferrets. Please never ever bother a living human female. Stick to creeping on fictional women.

I never had any interest in reading this trash. Reading it now to see if my assumptions about it were wrong: they were not.
This is a book for perverted men and desperate pick-me bitches.
Imagine using violence against girls to feel edgy.
Shame on all of you.

that's a weird way to say child rape. I swear the literary community is actually retarded sometimes.
Watch some of the idiots who defend this child porn get more offended at my use of the r-word than child rape presented as a "love story."

So like....this the brilliant prose I keep hearing about?
60 pages in and this book is just as disgusting as I always thought it would be. I'm only reading this to better fight with people. If you're entertained by child rape, do the world a favor and castrate yourself. Women too.

So, I'm finally about to read Lolita. Not bc I want to, but bc the book is having a moment on booktube and I need to be able to adequately fight with people.
The book is sick.
"But the book shows how wrong child r-word is!"
You needed a book to teach you that?
"But the prose is so pretty!"
And the nazi uniform is pretty sleek, but I don't run around praising that. You can not separate aesthetics from meaning

Being pregnant is weird AF. My diet has never been this strange. The thought of eating any meat is making me want to hurl. I'm living off pears, peaches, apples, mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese. The thought of almost any other foods makes me sick. My husband is currently eating salmon in the other room, bc I can't stand the smell. Y'all...I LOVE salmon! This is super weird.

I feel guilty for feeling this way, but like...I hate the feeling of being pregnant. I'm tired no matter how much sleep I get. I have a ton of pain and discomfort in my abdomen and I'm headachey and nasueus. I keep getting spells of dizziness. My pants don't fit because of bloating.
Y'all I am only halfway through my first trimester! How am I gonna do 9 months of this. I hate feeling sick.

Throwing in the towel around the 30% mark. I think this book just isn't for me. The romanticization of slavery is a lot. I'm not into it. Maybe that changes by the end of the book. I'm just not digging this.
