Snagged an advance edition!!!!

This might end up being a Did Not Finish for me. Taking a break to read some Elizabeth Strout and might come back to it.

Not really understanding the hype so far. It definitely feels written with the INTENTION of becoming a movie. The main character’s juvenile language combined with his brilliant nonstop calculations feels distracting.

Finally finally reading it after all this time.

Trying to read all of Kingsolver’s fiction this year. I can already see some similarities to Prodigal Summer (how does climate change affect country bumpkins?) but it’s different enough & of course her writing is beautiful enough that I am ALL IN.

The very first line had me hooked. “My first word was ‘mother,’ spoken out loud and with texture.”

I’m forcing myself to get through this because the plot is interesting, but his writing style is grating on my nerves. Not a fan.

Turned to the second page and realized this is another Wendell Berry re-read for me, but it’s so damn good I just don’t care. I’ll re-read it every year for the rest of my life before I get sick of it.

Identical story structure to “Maybe in Another Life” which I happened to read a few weeks ago. It’s an interesting format, but feels somewhat predictable.
