*spoilers* The "courtship" between Matilda and Warin is so icky that I had to stop reading for a bit. The book skims over it, but she doesn't seem entirely thrilled to be sleeping with him, and they definitely don't love each other. Honestly, I hope she destroys him.

I expected a lot from this book, because a lot of people seem to like it. But so far, it feels a lot like "Hunger Games" / "Throne of Glass" / the other popular YA books. Maybe I would've been more thrilled if I had read this one first. Who knows.

Seriously, what is going on? And who is this "late-night visitor" Sarah slept with? Does she even know? Is she cheating on Adam, or was she r*ped? She doesn't seem at all bothered.

I can't with the scene where the cops barge into Adam's home, fight him, handcuff him, and drag him to the station. What was going on? He wasn't charged with anything. Was there even a warrant to arrest him or enter his home? Simply refusing to speak with cops isn't probable cause, I'm pretty sure. Maybe they're going to use this later in the book as some evidence of bad policing. I'd certainly be asking questions.

Is Cortana suddenly turning into Mjolnir now? 🤣

This series needs to be more centered. There are so many minor characters and plot points that the reader cannot keep up with it all.

It is clear that Cassandra Clare is writing this series solely so she can make the Blackthorns (and company) the most LGBTQ+ family ever. I'm not here to get into the morality of it, but it detracts from the story.

Ash being Sebastian's son is way too far out there.

The phrase "sketched a bow" is trademark SJM.

Plot hole: Why does Emika have to tell Jesse - a complete stranger - all about her secret underworld dealings to get information about the symbol when Tremaine knows said info before they go into the karaoke room? Tremaine could have just told her where the symbol came from without Emika giving away anything.

To quote the Thunderhead, Shusterman's writing style is "eloquent and charming, funny and endearing".
