When her husband had to leave rehab, I find it interesting that it seemed to be because the Dr. decided it was time. I guarantee it had more to do with the insurance not wanting to pay anymore. Also, why was home health not considered? We have weekly D/C planning that includes family. How was she not involved in that? Therapists would’ve been talking about goals and alternatives throughout his stay.

I’m very impressed with her perseverance. However, Being a healthcare worker I’m not appreciative of the complaints about her husband’s care. Unfortunately, it only takes 1 person to do something wrong that can ruin the whole perception of a field. I have to admit I’m feeling defensive.

Oh, the puns! I’m listening to this audiobook, narrated by Rainn Wilson, but also reading some. The author mentioned the illustrations in his forward, so I picked up the book at the library and am admiring the drawings.

I think I found a mistake. In ch 9, Louisa Lane Drew is listed as knowing John Wilkes Booth. She is the grandma of Lionel, Ethel, & John Barrymore & listed as the great grandma of Drew Barrymore. But Drew‘s father was also named John & was the son of the John listed above. So Louisa is Drew‘s great great grandmother.

Still, it’s an interesting connection between John Wilkes Booth & the Barrymore family.

I don’t think this conversation would’ve happened in“real life”. Most people stick with your friends and opinion in junior high. Stephanie probably wouldn’t have come to talk to Elizabeth.

I don’t think they came to the right conclusion of how to talk to Maddie about her behavior. Personally, I think it would have been better if the author had both girls talk to Maddie together.

I’m amazed how blasé and completely inappropriately Officer Doyle gives out confidential police info to, not only a minor, but the general public.

2 quotes:

p. 298 “ it was as though we meant nothing to each other now. I couldn’t help but think of a quote from Persuasion (by Jane Austen): ‘now they were strangers; Nay, worse than strangers, for they could never become acquainted. It was a perpetual estrangement.’ ”

p. 300 “ buying gifts was never exactly a forte of mine.… So I stuck two books as a rule. You couldn’t go wrong with the book.”

end of Part six. Will start Ch 50 in the audio book. This book is supposed to be about joy. Well I just read the most tragic part. Sucks that I have to wait to hopefully see some joy again for this family.
