Reading this book for my Black Studies class. First chapter is done. I really like McKittrick’s style of writing.

I like how she frames curiosity as a methodology, an analysis of the archive and of the black lived experience. (Ch. 1)

Lowkey rly depressing so far

Bon, ça fait plus d’un commentaire déplacé et j’ai roulé les yeux, mais celui-la je peux pas l’ignorer. « Les apparences sont trompeuses, interviens-je. C’est comme Simon! Savais-tu ça, Gen, qu’il fréquentait une fille? Ha,ha,ha. Je croyais que son égo prenait toute la place dans sa vie. Mais bon, faut voir la grosseur de la fille. » Je comprends qu’elle est jalouse mais vrm c’est trop.

Pacing is a bit slow at the moment… also can I just say that I hate the name Gannon with a passion I can’t explain? That’s the name of the main character/love interest and i think its so ugly Im sorry

Still painful, came back to it after two weeks and idk if Im gonna push through this one LOL

Kind of really sad and depressing and I only anticipate it getting worse. I think the writing style blends all the memories together, and it reads a bit like the ramblings of an old person remembering their life, except there’s not really any joy, only a sense of responsibility and bitterness.

Honestly the writing is so bad that Im tempted to quit this one. Everyone I go to read it I barely make it past 4 pages before putting it down lol. So many typos, missing words, mistakes in basic homophone like there and their… it reads like a first draft

Main character getting really despicable in her delusion now. It’s like watching a train wreck!

Getting more interesting now

I like the writing but I don’t find the main character that horrible yet. I can’t wait till she’s really delusional. The best part of the book so far was when she killed her mom (not a spoiler it’s on the back of the book)

If I have to read “______ is an understatement” one more time 😭

Im actually so curious to see how this one will end!! I have to say, the style of writing was slowing me down in the beginning, but now that im invested in the characters im whizzing through it.
