I might have to return this to the library before I finish, so I wanted to update my progress so I don’t forget. I will keep it in my currently reading list because it’s a good book and I do intend to finish it.

I’m struggling between thinking a lot of people are really going to like this book because of the world building and connection to Japanese mythology, and a desire to DNF this for the past 50 pages or so. It just feels like a series of this happened, and then this happened, and the character development is spotty. It’s just not holding my attention.

I’ve got this book for 2 more weeks, but it’s starting to feel like a chore. I’m going to give it one week and then return it to the library.

I’m having a little trouble finding the desire to keep picking this book up. It has a lot, and I mean a lot, of interesting factoids. But it’s not a page-turned IMO. I’ll keep plugging away until it’s due back at the library, but I can’t promise I will 100% finish it.

I’m obsessively updating my page count so I can see how much I have left to read. 🥱

At 30% in, I will probably finish the book. The story is not bad, but the inaccuracies are maddening. I am kind of hate reading it at this point.

I’m torn between cutting my losses and DNF-ing this one, and giving it a little longer. I’m going to take a short break from it and then decide.

Less than 40 pages in and I’ve already noticed several anachronisms. Not an auspicious start.
