My interest is beginning to wane. I liked being with the Bridgeburners, Tattersail, Paran, etc. I couldn't give a fig about Kruppe or Crokus or whatever is happening in Drukikistisan, or whatever it's called.

A few notes. I dislike many of the awkward sentences Erickson makes. Such as:

"Many had been the suitors, many the gifts of gems and baubles that now resided in the young maiden's bedroom."

"His gaze on the dozing house guard in the garden below, the mind of Crokus Younghand picked its way carefully through speculations of what was to come."

And, while the book had an explosive start, it's starting to dawdle.

I'm surprised by how much this book has gripped me. I haven't been this invested in a book, let alone a fantasy book, in years.

The book is compelling so far, but I wish that there was more physical descriptions of places. Jess has just made a HUGE move from the US to Malaysia, a place she hasn't been since she was a toddler. I would expect more interest/wonder/comparison of her surroundings. Right now, the book feels somewhat location agnostic.

I internally cringe whenever they reference "THE WARS!" Father is off fighting in THE WARS. Reminds me of an episode of Invader Zim.

And wait, first Jess was made that she was "rescued." Now she's happy? Mkaaaaay.
