been in a bad reading slump so haven’t been reading as much but my god… i really do not like macleod in this book 😭 i mean obvs i know things get better bc this is a prequel but man… he was not a great husband and father

excited to start the next book in this installment but off the bat i am a little bothered by the change in quality of this book. The pages are whiter (i liked the warmth of the last book), they feel a bit thinner and the margins have changed (before they were off center and pushed to the edge of the book, now it’s centered, but i found the off center nature made it easier to read). but just a minor complaint

ngl pretty burnt out on fantasy rn. this book has captured my attention, really love the paranormal aspects and the fact it’s based in new orleans. as someone from NO, it’s kinda cool reading all the references lol

also why is SJM setting up every romantic relationship rn 😭😭 literally the only one i care about is seeing dorian and manon interact more

a bear chase scene lasted longer than the time it took for draven to please serena (which, btw, sucked). why is this a literal entire fucking chapter? why am i still reading this??

this book is a dumpster fire. entertaining though. i keep asking myself why i am still reading it and yet here i am lol

so far a rinse and repeat of every romantasy book i’ve read up to this point. typical brooding, toxic, possessive male with wings and dark features and a small, hopeless girl who everyone hates but is secretly super powerful. more trials in a palace. i’ll say, her magic is one i haven’t seen before. the writing is a bit off and makes me cringe at times. at least the girl is 100+ years old and not 17 lol

i read this book back in 2012 and gave it 5-stars, let’s see if that holds true for this second reread (i’m sure it will)

just finished part 2, aka: the Games portion, and god am i so glad to be done with it lmfao. what a drag

i’ve honestly been enjoying the book up until now (even tho reading through Coriolanus’ POV has been really painful at times) but now it’s starting to drag and get boring. Snow is just as insufferable as a teen as he is an adult

unfortunately this book has been a bit of a snooze fest. there has definitely been some interesting parts here and there and obviously a lot is being built up for what’s to come, but i’m struggling to turn the pages. still interested in reading the rest though and I’m sure things will pick up when the action starts

Part 4/5: The Assassin and the Underworld

holy crap, things are starting to really pick up lol. knowing what happens in the first two books, my heart is already breaking. definitely my favorite out of the novellas so far.

arobynn is a piece of shit i hope celaena fucks him up like oh my god, i’m so angry rn lol

Part 3/5: The Assassin and the Desert

Another banger of a novella in this collection. I loved the relationship between Celaena and Ansel (that ending tho). i had fun learning and getting to know assassins from other parts of the world. we also got, IMO, one of my favorite moments in the series far:

Part 2/5: The Assassin and the Healer

pretty basic story, barely even 50 pages so not a lot happening. unless the healer, Yrene Towers, makes an appearance later in the series, it felt like a waste of a read. still entertaining tho and celaena was a badass. 3/5 stars
