I’m giving up on this book

“He liked this feeling of being subject to Diane and sat nicely in his seat for the rest of the trip, feeling very French, like Genet or Violette Leduc, a classy submissive.”

“How could he love someone he met in high school? To Paul, that was prison romance, desire that doesn’t hold up to competition.”

“Paul claimed to like the free pop refills, but Jane suspected he just liked saying “pop“ for trade realness.”

Paul on the topic of the best cover songs fucking with gender

“Let’s face it” Paul continued. “there really isn’t anything unusual about Tom Jones‘s heteronormative male gaze or his whine of dudely entitlement. Tonya Donnelly reinvigorates Jones’ familiar words, posits an actually unusual expression of desire a girl‘s desire, possibly probably even queer”

“Is that Serge Gainsbourg?” asked Maisie.
“Yeah,” said Paul, who didn’t know.

“No one can be emperor all by himself.”

And so I went to see Therese. She also realized that I have to flee, because flight is an erotic word for her. She gave me her savings. Dear God, I swear to you, I will return it to her with diamonds and all the good fortune in the world.

“I got more flowers than all the other actresses combined. That’s because I had spread the word that I would be playing and except for Hubert all the men I had ever had a relationship with were at the theater. I had no idea there were so many! Except for them, the theater was empty. There was hardly anyone there.”

“I felt like writing a poem, but that might have had to rhyme and I was too tired for that”

Doris when the moonlight is shining on her head. I get it

Katharina von Ankum, Leo A. Lansing

Nazis hated this book not only because of evocation of urban pathologies, but also “endorsement of empathy and tolerance”

Reminds me of a certain administration

“The constant friction between her materialistic desires and her romantic ambitions derails efforts to become upward mobile.”

I like that Doris feels contempt for diarists and wants to “write like a movie.” Me too!!!!

Artist/writer (?) I like recommendations because I like to be thought about

Picked this up because mentions Guy Debord, however I haven’t read anything of his yet so it’s hard to know if I’m getting what I searched for. Truth be told, was looking for inspiration for my circus themed work and stumbled across this in library database.

Have to read bits at a time. Intrigued. Different text layouts are cool. I know that Indesign shit was harddddd

Thinking you found a favorite story and then getting hit with a slight to moderately incestuous ending…Thanks Midge Lane. Plan on reviewing this in full for blog

Elizabeth K. Payne…we’re leaving rigid relationship dynamics in 2025
