Alltid kul att få reda på mer av Isfolkets ursprung. Obviously är boken full av stereotyper och inte den mest genomforskade boken om nenetserna och deras kultur men rolig ändå. Det är nog inte någon som läser de här böckerna för dess insikter om ras och kön… ha!

Never have I read such a violent book so full of humanity and beauty. An inexplicable book really, only complete through its immense journey, one of walking through one’s wounds, ripping them open from within and setting the blood free. A truly epic, unforgettable book that will tear your heart out and blow it back in piece by piece, line by line, until you’re boring but animal, flesh and bones.

A book about the human need for connection, of all the things we didn’t say or do, about the relief of finding someone in a place far away from home. Ali’s writing is immediate and atmospheric to the point where you’ll feel cold and ill just reading about this winter in Berlin in the 1920s. For such a political time, it’s characters are devastatingly apolitical, making this love story all the more tragic.

J’ai lu ce livre presque toute entière dans une seule séance. La douceur avec laquelle l’autrice a raconté cet affreux historie est à la fois terrifiante et rempli de pitié. Une histoire sur le besoin que nous avons tous d'appartenir à quelqu’un, d'être utile. Une histoire subtile sur le pouvoir et la lutte des classes.
