Uh. 😅 I'm trying not to laugh but this one is kind of funny.. not sure if that's intentional or not. But it is fun! I need something light after this week at work (yes, it's Tuesday. Shut up).

WOWWW. I love everything about this so far. The strange tension in the household, the dynamic between the older and younger sister, the way the discussion of racism is presented... I kind of have no idea what's happening, but it's so well written and I'm hooked!

This family really loves Freud... yay for me that I get to read about it 😞

I'm a lot more interested in Everand, he actually does have feelings, albeit confusing ones. Kind of suspect he's neurodivergent, and a mage, and damn the princess has got to be magic too. IDK why someone wants the king dead, so far he's about as okay as any monarchist could be. I mean I think they should overthrow him since he doesn't seem to care about the actual people in the kingdom, but why kill him, you know?

This boy has to be some kind of nature fae or something at this point.

Hm. Well I like the mage better now and I understand more about where things are going, but I can't say that I'm particularly emotionally involved. They all kind of seem like bad people? Guess I've got to stick around and find out.

Well, I already have several thoughts on how the author views women, but those aside, the lore is kind of cool. Looking forward to reading more about the different monsters, especially some that I haven't heard of! I love cryptids, monsters, creatures, and the like, so this will still be of value to me despite the... obvious problem. When objectification isn't the primary motive, the art is actually cute, too.

I'm interested, but a lot of different leads are being introduced at the moment. I suppose that's the reality of most fantasy books, an I imagine that will lessen over time. Gillien has never failed me before, so I'm going to keep on trucking and see where it takes me.

I'm so stressed out right now this is a mess. And I doubt it can get better without getting worse first... somehow.

Crying so hard the last two chapters. I can't even deal with this. It goes from a snooze fest to the most emotionally wrought chapters ever back to back, and it's becoming a major pain. Someone spoon-feed this to me so I can survive 🥀⚰️

Whelp. Thought I was in a reading slump but I'm flying through this one no problem... it's a sad moment when I have to put it down. I really have to slog through that other one, but my therapist tells me I shouldn't be such a perfectionist. Letting myself have a break from it and hopefully I can go back refreshed! This is already becoming a favorite 😅
