One of the downsides of being primarily a horror / romance reader is that I really struggle with literally fiction. Like I can tell this is a good book, it’s well written interesting etc. But if no one has sex or dies for more than 100 pages I do find myself growing antsy, and that’s where I’m at rn

DNF - Sanderson is a great writer, but all of his main characters are too morally good and after a while that gets a bit cloying

Ok so I’m about 1/3 of the way through. Yabu is significantly more evil in the book, I think the actor they cast to play him in the show is just so charming that even when he’s doing atrocities I’m like - oh what a silly goose. But book Yabu squicks me out. Still haven’t met Mariko yet

I think I’m gonna DNF this 😔 it’s very boring! The heroine is so starchy that I genuinely don’t understand what the hero is attracted to. There’s a marriage of convenience trope going on but I’m unclear on what exactly is convenient for him about having a wife? Disappointing since I loved the first book in the series so much!

Books about writers writing are typically not my jam, but I cannot put this down. It does an excellent job at encapsulating the intimate, subtle violence that comes with being friends with a group of women who aren’t really your friends
